MARSAUDON COMPOSITES LORIENT ORC 42 - THE FAST BLUEWATER CRUISING CATAMARAN
Built in 2020 by Marsaudon Composites Lorient, this ORC 42 follows a clear philosophy: a light, efficient and genuinely seaworthy catamaran designed to sail fast rather than to pile up volume. At 8,900 kg for 13.86 m overall, she sits between the offshore cruising multihull and the performance platform, aimed at crews who want to cover miles with the family aboard.
Construction and seakeeping
Polyester hulls and a PRV - fibreglass deck, 13.86 m long, 8.20 m wide and drawing just 1 m: a wide, stable platform able to reach the most sheltered anchorages. The rig, with a boom fitted with lazy jacks and lazy bag by INCIDENCES, is handled from the cockpit and has been kept deliberately simple for short-handed sailing.
Performance and life aboard
The sail wardrobe (battened roller-furling mainsail, 140 m² A2 spinnaker by DELTA VOILES, 80 m² gennaker on a furler by INCIDENCES, staysail and bowsprit) covers every point of sail, with 8 knots cruising and speeds recorded up to 18 knots. The 30 hp YANMAR 3YM30, with only 350 hours, handles manoeuvres at 2 l/h, backed by 190 l of fuel and 234 l of fresh water. Below, 3 cabins and 8 berths, with a 130 L fridge, ENO oven, Daewoo washing machine, two 20 L water heaters, plus a well-equipped outside area: bimini, bathing platform and ladder, deck shower, cockpit table and cushions.
